Overview
Veterinary clinical pathology is the diagnostic discipline that examines blood, tissue, and other biological samples from animals to detect disease, monitor health status, and guide treatment decisions. Research published in Veterinary Healthcare on this topic addresses diverse aspects of diagnostic investigation across multiple species and disease conditions. Studies have examined neoplastic processes, including the detection of cancer cells in bone marrow of dogs with mammary tumors, characterization of canine osteosarcoma variants, and analysis of immunohistochemical markers such as alpha-smooth muscle actin in mammary papillary tumors and inflammatory infiltrates in mammary carcinomas. Investigations have explored infectious disease diagnostics, including identification and antifungal susceptibility testing of dermatophytes in companion animals, detection of carbapenem resistance mechanisms in avian pathogenic bacteria, and diagnostic approaches to contagious bovine pleuropneumonia. Additional work has evaluated physiological parameters in racing pigeons during training and cardiorespiratory monitoring during surgical procedures. The field remains essential for evidence-based veterinary medicine, enabling clinicians to diagnose conditions accurately, assess disease progression, and evaluate treatment responses across companion animals, livestock, and avian species through laboratory analysis of cellular and molecular changes.
