Overview

Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a condition that occurs when a blood clot forms in the deep veins, usually in the legs. This clot can travel through the bloodstream and get lodged in the lungs, which is known as a pulmonary embolism (PE). VTE can cause serious health complications and even death, so it is important to be aware of the signs and symptoms, risk factors, and ways to reduce the chances of developing VTE. Treatment for VTE typically involves anticoagulant medications, as well as lifestyle changes, such as exercising regularly and quitting smoking. VTE is a major health concern that affects millions of people worldwide, and understanding its causes and prevention strategies is key to reducing the number of cases and improving public health.
