Biography
Dr. Liz Simon received her Ph.D. in endocrine physiology with the support of an Indian Council of Agricultural Research fellowship and completed postdoctoral training at the College of Veterinary Medicine, University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in stem cell and endocrine physiology. She served as Assistant Professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the College of Veterinary Medicine, Tuskegee University from 2010 to 2013, and held an adjunct faculty position in the Department of Pathology, School of Medicine at the University of Alabama at Birmingham from 2012 to 2013. She joined Louisiana State University Health Sciences Center New Orleans in July 2013, where her research focuses on the interactions of alcohol use with aging, frailty, metabolic function, and mitochondrial biology. Her most-cited work, "The New Orleans Alcohol Use in HIV Study: Launching a Translational Investigation of the Interaction of Alcohol Use with Biological and Socioenvironmental Risk Factors for Multimorbidity in People Living with HIV" (2019), has been cited 34 times and exemplifies her translational approach to understanding multimorbidity risk factors.
