Overview

Schizophrenia disorder is a severe mental disorder that affects how a person thinks, feels, and behaves. It is characterized by disorganized thoughts, delusions, hallucinations, and changes in behavior. Researchers believe that it is caused by a combination of genetic and environmental factors. Schizophrenia is a prevalent disorder, affecting approximately 1.1% of the population across the world. It has profound effects on those suffering and their families and can often lead to functional disability, suicidal thoughts, and incarceration. Early diagnosis and treatment can help improve the course of the illness, reduce symptoms, and improve quality of life. Treatments include medication, psychotherapy, psychosocial interventions, lifestyle changes, and social support. With proper management and support, people with schizophrenia can lead fulfilling lives.
