Biography
Jason Akulian, MD, MPH, is a member of the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and serves as Director of Interventional Pulmonology and Assistant Professor of Medicine in Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, NC, United States. His research focuses on interventional pulmonology techniques and procedural innovations in thoracic medicine. Dr. Akulian's most-cited work, "Gravity- vs Wall Suction-Driven Large-Volume Thoracentesis" (2024), reflects his contributions to advancing evidence-based approaches in pleural procedures. His honors include recognition as an ACCP Center of Excellence in Interventional Pulmonology at Johns Hopkins (2012), an Outstanding Abstract award at the ACCP/CHEST National Meeting (2012), and the Ralph E. Reinfrank Teaching Excellence Award from the University of Connecticut Internal Medicine Program (2008).
