Overview

Knee osteoarthritis is a degenerative joint disease that affects the weight-bearing joints of the body and is one of the most common chronic illnesses among adults. In knee osteoarthritis, cartilage and bones of the knee joint become damaged, leading to pain and stiffness. As the cartilage wears away, it may cause the bones to rub together, further leading to pain, swelling, and a decrease in range of motion. Treatment options may include lifestyle modifications, medications, physical therapy, and in some cases, surgery. Knee osteoarthritis is a significant health condition, as it can affect the ability to function and lead to a decreased quality of life.
