Scope
What the journal publishes
The full remit, its boundary and how scope is applied in assessment are set out on the Aims and Scope page.
Nephrology is studied at several scales at once, and the journal is organized around that range rather than around one preferred kind of evidence. Contributions include fundamental and applied research, descriptive and observational studies, replication and validation studies, and evidence synthesis. Scope eligibility rests on the substantive nephrology question; methodological rigor and reporting quality are assessed separately.

Laboratory, experimental and computational work on how the kidney is built, functions, is injured and repairs.

The diagnosis, natural history, complications and treatment of kidney disease across the life course.

- Article processing charge
- USD 1,599, charged after acceptance. Terms are set out on the Article Processing Charges page, and the editorial office answers fee-relief inquiries.

- Authors retain copyright. Articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0, so anyone may read, redistribute and build on the work with attribution.
