Overview

Biological chemistry is an interdisciplinary field of science that applies the principles of chemistry to better understand the processes of life. This includes understanding how the body's cells, proteins, hormones, and other molecules work and interact with each other. Through research, biological chemists can better understand the fundamental mechanisms of living organisms and create targeted treatments to diseases and illnesses. Biological chemists also play an important role in the development of new medical treatments, including drugs and vaccines. By understanding how the body works, biological chemists are able to create compounds and drugs that can be used to target specific cells, proteins and other molecules to help better understand the processes and functions of the body.
