Overview

Knee osteoarthritis is a chronic degenerative condition involving the breakdown of joint cartilage and underlying bone in the knee joint. It is one of the most common forms of arthritis and can cause significant pain and disability. It can affect people of all ages, but is more common in older adults. Risk factors include age, family history, overweight and obesity, and previous joint injury or overuse. Treatment may include physical therapy, exercise, weight loss, medications, and in some cases, surgery. Knee osteoarthritis is a very common form of arthritis that can greatly impact a person’s quality of life. Early diagnosis and treatment is key for improving mobility and reducing pain.
